Queen's Park - Nursery

Miss Backhouse's Class

In Nursery this term, we want the children to feel happy and safe coming to school, and to be excited about the activities they will do. Children will be learning how to play together in a group, make friends, and use kind words to talk to each other. They will learn to choose and access the resources they need, and tidy them away when they are finished. As the weather gets colder, children will be learning to be more independent when putting on their coats; you can help your child by encouraging them to do this at home.

Our topic is All About Me and children will be learning about themselves, their bodies and their feelings. Children will be developing the confidence to speak in a group about themselves, their families, and what is special to them.

We will be sharing lots of wonderful stories, and two we will focus on are 'Kind' by Axel Scheffler and 'The Colour Monster' by Anna Llenas. 'Kind' will help children to learn about all the kind things we can do and help them think about the choices they make at school. 'The Colour Monster' will help children to understand their emotions and we will talk about what they can do to feel better if they feel sad or angry (Zones of Regulation).

Nursery will do PE on Wednesday afternoons. Children will choose a Reading for Pleasure book to take home every Wednesday and bring back to class on Mondays. Please enjoy reading this book with them, showing your child how to turn pages gently and care for books.

Observations of children’s learning will be updated on Tapestry so parents can follow their learning journey. If you have any questions, please get in touch with Miss Backhouse on Class Dojo
