London Bridge – Year 5

Welcome to London Bridge!

Meet the team!

In Year 5, we welcomed the children back to school with our Whole School picture book ‘The Great Paper Caper’. The children were excited to discuss the themes within the book and created fantastic descriptive writing as well as artwork showing the setting and characters. In English, we will be exploring different versions of fairy tales from around the world beginning with the story of ‘Yeh Shen – The Chinese Cinderella.’  This story is linked to our History topic where the children will learn all about the wonders of the Shang Dynasty!

In Maths, we have been reviewing our knowledge of Place value and sharing our understanding of the vocabulary that we will be using for this unit.  We have talked about the importance of knowing our times tables up to x12 and we would like your child to practise regularly at home so that they know each of these times table fluently. We will be having our times tables quiz in class every Monday. In PE, your child will be learning the skills of Tag Rugby and developing their understanding of the game. PE will take place every Wednesday afternoon either in school or at Queens Park Gardens. Please can you make sure your child is dressed in their PE kit on Wednesdays.

Homework will be set on Fridays and is due on a Wednesday. The children will be given English, Maths and Spellings as homework. The children will be tested on their spellings every Friday. The children have been given a reading book that they will be expected to change at least once a week. The pupils read in class daily so should bring in their reading diary every day.

It has been a settled and productive start to the year for our pupils and we look forward to having a wonderful year with your children!
